Cockermouth has a wide selection of shops where
you can purchase most items from everyday essentials to unique hand
crafted gifts. The majority of shops are on the three main central streets
of Main Street, Market Place & Station Street with others in the
smaller roads leading off these and also in some of the courts.
A 'Town Trail' booklet (30p) is available at the TIC and in The New
Bookshop (on Main Street opposite the junction with Station Street).
Walking at your own pace it is an ideal way to see and find out about
Cockermouth, its history, architecture and the famous people who lived
here. Apart from a certain well known poet Cockermouth is also famous,
among others, for a mutineer and the father of atomic theory. Who are
they all? Come and find out!
