This tractor kit was produced initially in 1949 and was the first plastic kit by Airfix. Plastic was a relatively new material in those days with very few firms making the raw material. Due to the inevitable shortages immediately after the Second World War, Airfix obtained any plastic they could so the first tractors were made from recycled acetate fountain pens and the tyres from rubber stripped off scrap electric cable!
